Bristol Maps is tailored to meet the navigation needs of commercial fishermen, offering access to the latest satellite imagery. Currently serving Bristol Bay and Copper River watersheds, this application aims to enhance efficiency, safety, and overall productivity on fishing expeditions by providing up-to-date and accurate information.
Designed by a fisherman who understands the challenges of relying on outdated NOAA charts that may pose risks due to rapidly changing environmental conditions, Bristol Maps leverages curated satellite images captured during low tide. This unique feature allows users to pinpoint current bar locations and overlay multiple images at varying tides, providing valuable insights into navigable water areas.
Moreover, users can overlay these images onto traditional NOAA charts, enabling a comprehensive view of the fishing grounds. In addition to its core mapping functionality, the app offers tide and weather forecasts that can be localized to specific areas or accessed through NOAA zone weather forecasts, assisting in planning and decision-making during fishing trips.
The application boasts a range of features, including private groups for sharing locations, custom routes, and waypoints, satellite overlays for different regions such as Naknek/Kvichak, Egegik, Ugashik, Nushagak, and Copper River. It also provides offline access to NOAA overlays for all of Alaska, organized location grid layouts, NOAA tide charts for Bristol Bay stations, weather forecasts, boundary lines with alarm functionality for major districts, waypoint and route creation capabilities for data sharing among users.
Offering an intuitive and user-friendly interface to address common challenges faced by fishermen, Bristol Maps comes with an annual subscription fee of $150. A two-week free trial period is available for testing purposes with the option for free cancellation. The subscription package includes regular updates, bug fixes, and seasonal imagery additions.
